If the Shoe errr, Bug Fits…

Yesterday, I got the following text message:

“I’ve got ladybugs.”

Wheee!, I exclaimed, prompting Wayne to ask what the good news was. I would like to say that some sense of shame might have prompted me for just blurting out, “Ladybugs!” but it didn’t. Fortunately for you dear readers, Wayne was fairly clueless about the source of my ladybug excitement and thus required the following explanation:

Two weeks ago, I was perusing some photos from an early Sunday morning garden photography session in Lightroom when I noticed some aphids on the tomato plants after an early Sunday morning garden photography session. On any other day, such a revelation would have required a couple hours of internet research therapy for my sudden aphid panic attack. But Sunday is also Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market day and I had other things on my mind.

On the way down to the Farmer’s Market, I bumped into my gardening buddy from up the street Otis and we spent a couple minutes chatting about the usual neighborhood gossip, the upcoming DC Triathlon that his wife and I are both doing, and aphids. He mentioned he’d tried a couple of things for the aphids on his milkweed and was considering picking up some ladybugs and I mentioned I’d be willing to go halfsies with him. And then I bounced off to the farmer’s market and promptly forgot all about the conversation.

Until the text message, that is. So now I’ve got a little tub of ladybugs in the fridge, just cooling their heels until deployment later tonight on Mission Aphid.
