I just noticed this squash monster yesterday. Mainly because he was hiding behind the mama plant stem. And also because I can get so caught up in getting the right angle, the right texture, the right light that they completely overlook what seems to be obvious. If you’ve ever looked at one of my photos and thought, How could she miss that??, I can assure you it’s because I was completely fixated on something else.

The cowhorns are getting longer.

The bell peppers have started really blossoming in earnest. I love their purple “elbows.”

Loyal readers, you already know that I think plant blossoms are freaky. As evidence, I offer the above photo of a pepper plant STARING RIGHT AT ME.

The Baby Pepper Bomb – it’s the first of the bell peppers. It’s green now but it will be a different color when it’s ready to be picked. You’d think I’d remember what color peppers I bought but I’m pleading the Fifth on that one. All I can say is it won’t be purple, brown or green. If I were a betting girl, I could be persuaded to put some money on orange or red but we’ll just have to see.

The cucumbers are finally catching up with the squash. I call this photograph “Defying Gravity.”

Here’s radicchio doing it’s best hydra impersonation – I chopped off all its spicy, bitter heads five days ago and here they are growing back already.
